Wine Profile

Even though we expect great aromatics from this site, nothing could prepare us for the wow factor that came when we popped the cork on our 2023 Roberts Road Pinot Noir. Quintessentially Pinot and then some, the nose opens with exotic notes of mulberry, boysenberry, and orange blossom followed by sweet vanilla, baking spice and chocolate. The palate holds its own with mouthfilling texture, polished red fruit and bright acidity that persists through the long. elegant finish.

Vineyard: Farmed by the legendary Sangiacomo family, Roberts Road Vineyard is planted to the western slopes of Sonoma Mountain, on an old creek bed. The site’s alluvial clay soils and unique location in a fog-catching depression at the base of the mountain create the perfect conditions for growing world class Pinot Noir. The vineyard’s extended hangtime along with the clonal selections produce extraordinarily structured and beautifully aromatic wines.

Winemaking: In keeping with our site-specific focus, we employ similar winemaking techniques for each of our Pinot Noirs so that the individual character of the vineyard is what truly distinguishes each bottling. Grapes for our 2023 Roberts Road Pinot Noir was harvested in the early morning and transported immediately to the winery, where the grapes were de-stemmed into small open top tanks for three days of cold soak at approximately 45F. The must was allowed to warm and start fermentation, at which point we added a very small amount of Red Burgundy yeast strain and began punch downs three to four times daily. Once fermentation was completed, the wine was pressed to French oak barrels for secondary malolactic fermentation and settling. After a total of 18 months in barrel, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
